Sortie aux Salins d’Aigues-Mortes
Friday the 18th of June, students from the 4ème and the 3ème made a trip to the Camargue. The trip was supporting the 4ème’s EPI project, ‘The Colors of the Camargue’, with topics in SVT, Physics and Chemistry, Technology, and Art that focus on the beautiful colors one sees in the Camargue: the blue skies, the black bulls, the white horses, the purple salt flats, and, of course, the iconic pink flamingos. In the morning, we took a train tour of the salin d’Aigues-Mortes (https://www.visitesalinsdecamargue.com/), where we learned about the region’s salt production and exactly why the salt ponds turn purple (something we already knew from Kurt’s science class!). In the afternoon, we went to the Parc Ornithologique du Pont de Gau (https://www.parcornithologique.com/). Kurt guided tours around the etang where students spotted flamingos, black ibis, egrets, herons, white storks, ducks, stilts, avocets, and many songbirds.
Students commented that they loved walking around the parc ornithologique and seeing all of the birds (even though it was a bit hot!), and that the trip was a great end to a fun project.
